FAQs

  • From May 23 2022, we are operating out of our permanent space at 2/43 Granite Drive, Rolleston.

  • A chiropractor is someone who specialises in the function of the spine and its relationship to the nervous system. Our goal is help your body heal as it is supposed to by restoring proper alignment and nervous system function allowing you to get the best out of life!

  • The beauty of chiropractic is that it can be suited to anyone and everyone regardless of their situation, from children through to elderly, healthy to injured and needing help to begin the repair process. Commonly people do seek out care when they are experiencing some form of health challenge such as:

    • Lower back pain

    • Neck pain

    • Headaches

    • Poor posture

    • Lack of energy

    • Mood swings

    • Poor sleep

    • Poor digestion

This is not an exhaustive list and if you have been considering seeing a chiropractor please get in contact with us.

  • This really depends on your situation, we tailor our advice to try and best suit your individual case. The objective of the initial examination is to determine a care plan recommendation based on your health history, examination findings and further testing. We base all of our decisions around the physiological parameters of healing, aiming to not just switch off pain signals but to resolve the underlying cause. Then we monitor progression and adjust the plan accordingly. Once initial challenges or complaints are stable, many people see the benefit of ongoing chiropractic care in order to get the most out of life and perform at their best. We aim to cater for that but recognise that this is a choice.

  • You will hear us use this word a lot. When we localise an area of the spine that isn’t functioning as it's supposed to, an adjustment is applied to restore its proper motion. There are many ways to do this but will usually involve a specific, fast and controlled thrust in the direction the vertebra needs to move in. If you are wondering how this differs from a manipulation, the short answer is that it is far more specific!

  • Yes! Chiropractic has been utilised since 1895 by millions of people worldwide to safely restore proper spinal and nervous system function to allow the body to heal. Chiropractors undergo rigorous training in order to safely look after the variety of people we help. Some instances require a modified approach and the point of the thorough initial examination process is to determine this. Here at Proactive, Matthew Wheatcroft has trained and qualified at the accredited New Zealand College of Chiropractic and is registered with the New Zealand Chiropractic Board and Association.

  • Yes, it certainly is. There is never a more important time for your spine and nervous system to be working in alignment! We can easily adapt our techniques as the pregnancy progresses, allowing your body to be in the best possible condition for delivery and recovery. Pregnancy is a common time to experience new discomfort and pains and chiropractic can help you manage this.

  • Yes, chiropractic care for children is not only safe, it can be really beneficial. Of course we adapt our approach to suit the age and development stage.

The birth process and the general falls and knocks of childhood are all good reasons to get a checkup. However, some key things to look out for in children (especially when they’re too young to speak) are:

    • Not turning the head one way as much as the other.

    • Difficulty feeding.

    • A traumatic birth.

    • Colic and repeated ear infections.

    • Not reaching key developmental milestones.

    • A significant fall or other injury.

  • We primarily adjust the spine using manual Diversified and Gonstead techniques, however we recognise that everybody (and every spine) is different so we also incorporate aspects of low force techniques such as activator and SOT. On occasion certain postural specific techniques from the ABC protocol will also be incorporated. Ultimately our highest priority is to find the most specific approach to achieve the best results possible for you.
